I am a Christian. It wasn’t a full on psychic. Just someone that does fertility readings. But regardless, nothing bad has happened and I trust God to take care of me. I was also 19 at the time lol.

Needs evergreen annuals along with perennials. Mulch would be better.
It does look nice but I fear you will only be left with rocks in a year. Your plants will not be able to grow or fill out properly with that plastic barrier. Perennials need room to thrive and drop seeds that make more lovely flowers. The black rocks might get too hot depending on your zone and the plants may die from lack of water getting to the roots because of the barrier.
Check with your local nursery.They will be able to direct you to plants that will work better in that situation. Perennial plants like black eyed susan, shasta daisy, blanket flowers cone flower bloom midsummer all the way to fall.
I have a 15 month old boy and everything is thrown to the ground. I make sure he is involved in the clean up of his messes too! I live in ohio too 🙂

Actually, the Post Office prefers that you not put flowers around you mailbox. It attracts bees and the mail carrier does not like getting stung. Seems like an reasonable preference.
